Can You Beat Me?

Swimming is a sport I have loved and done for many years now. I joined a swim team and I swim there year-round, even through the winter, where the temperature is a few degrees from freezing.
Frequently, we would swim in the summer and I would swim with my parents. The other day, my dad and I decided to do a holding-breath contest. Whoever could hold their breath the longest would win.
I held up three fingers. Then two. Then one. I took a huge breath and dived underwater.
Lights Out for Internet

A few months back, we bought a set of HomePlug AVs, things that let you go on the Internet through a power line. As my dad and I eventually proved, it was extremely picky. We had to unplug my mom’s touch bedside light to make it work. Somehow it was interfering with the signals.
We kept it unplugged and the Internet worked. One afternoon, as my dad went into the dressing room to change out of his gym clothes, my mom complained to him, “My Internet isn’t working anymore.”
My dad was half-way through changing. He turned the light off (we’re all into saving energy now that we got a $250 bill) and checked my Mom’s computer. Just as he stepped over, the computer flashed a message: System now connected to Internet.
Caught Redhanded

Sometimes, I eat dumplings while watching a bit of TV, when I’m bored. But when I’m sometimes doing that, my dog is always next to me, sitting obediently, waiting for maybe a little morsel of food? Please?
And I always say, “No, Peanut. This is not for you.” But once, I went upstairs to get my cell phone. And while I was doing that, I checked my email. When I came back down, my dumplings were all missing.
I looked at my dog, obediently sitting in his bed, licking his mouth. He did it, I knew. But I needed to prove it.
Some Things I Need

[ I really want a new computer. I really do. My old one is unbearably slow, and I can't take it anymore. So today, I'm going to try some persuasive writing. ]
I need a new computer. I really want a computer, regardless of the type, although I would prefer a laptop more. So here are my reasons:
Usually computers are retired and outdated in two years. I’ve been using mine for four years. It gets slow all the time, and I can barely open two windows in a photo-editing program without my system freezing up.
Scared of a Math Test? Don’t.
June 17th, 2008. Published under School, True Life. No Comments.
I was taking a math test so I could skip 6th grade math and get to 7th grade. At first, I was really happy I wouldn’t have to do something easy, but soon I just wanted to get it over with.
Then the day before the test came. I was entirely scared and much too ambiguous. I grabbed a entire box of lead, two pencils, a huge eraser, and I wanted to grab more, but my dad told me to calm down and took my lead away.
“It’ll be all right.” Okay? That didn’t mean the test would be easy. I gulped. (more…)
You Follow Me

Yesterday night I went swimming. It was a very tiring day and I wanted to be refreshed. I certainly was, for thirty minutes, before the lifeguard told everyone the pool was closed.
I headed on to the open showers where I hoped there would be an open spot. There was, but there was also two kids next to me, trying to wash themselves out.
The first kid said, “I’m going to wash my butt!” and promptly got on all fours, with his hands in front. The other kid followed, saying, “Me too.”
My First Shot at Guitar Hero

Yesterday I realized how horrible I was at non-computer based games. Like Guitar Hero. No, seriously. Last night, at a friend’s party, I ended up with the “Easy” level against my “Expert” friend. And I lost by more than just a few thousand points.
My friend Kev pointed out that it was all practice. While gearing down a few hundred dots.
Guitar Hero is a game with a guitar where you have to match up dots with notes to get the song right. It looks easy, but I can barely make it past the first level.
Kung Fu Panda

I considered myself lucky when my father decided to take me out the day before Father’s Day (today) to see the movie Kung Fu Panda. At first we were confused about the show-times, but soon we were driving along the road to the theater.
We were fourteen minutes late. My father insisted however that there were usually fifteen minutes worth of previews. Usually. I was looking for definitely.
Well, it turned out my father was definitely right. We arrived in just as the silence message came up, telling us the turn off our cell phones. Yeah, right. Mine was on vibrate, as was probably everyone else’s.
Rain in the Summer (Poem)
June 13th, 2008. Published under Poems, True Life. No Comments.
It is summer, and it is so hot,
yet why does it rain?
If it should be hot,
doesn’t rain make it cool?
I tilt my head back and forth,
wondering as the rain
falls on the windshield.
It makes the wipers work,
and that is such a waste.
If it had not rained,
then all would be well.
