A Little Competition “Update”

May 5th, 2008. Published under School, True Life. No Comments.

It was the big day: we were taking the science TAKS test, and my teacher reminded us about the competition with a big wink. “Do well,” she said, and then let us start taking the test.

During the test, I worked hard. I finished it in a little bit less than an hour. The slowest of our class took around two hours. We read books when we were finished, not really minding the fact that we couldn’t do anything else.

Our teacher stopped watching us after a while and sat down at her computer, checking her email and replying them. Once, she giggled, and we all looked at her. She covered her mouth like she said a bad word.

Finally everyone had finished the test. Eagerly we asked her what she had laughed about. She replied,”What laugh?” I understood: she was trying to get us pumped up again.

Most of our classmates dismissed it, saying that somebody must have emailed her a funny joke or something. But the rest of us pestered her and finally she told us.

“It’s about our little competition. The other teacher emailed me today.” I looked at someone who thought it was a joke, and they looked at the person next to them.

“Was it the scores to their test?” Many asked. “Did we win?”

“No,” our teacher replied, “she said this:”

Hi! Just a little update on our little competition.

Some of my students finished in 26 minutes. The slowest ones took an hour.

Either my students are REALLY smart, or they’re REALLY dumb. How about your students?

Looking forward to seeing you in a costume that is OUR mascot!
